Hyo Joo Kim demonstrated remarkable composure under intense pressure Sunday at Sharon Heights Golf Club, completing a wire-to-wire victory at the Fortinet Founders Cup despite a fierce challenge from Nelly Korda.

The South Korean golfer saw her commanding five-stroke lead evaporate after 10 holes, but she regained control and ultimately prevailed by a single shot after posting a final-round 73 for a 16-under total of 272.

"I don't think I was necessarily shaken up or my emotions were all over the place," Kim said through an interpreter. "I was just trying to keep my focus on my shots and what I was doing."

Korda mounted a spectacular charge early in the final round, matching Kim's bogey on the second hole before firing six birdies over the next eight holes to draw even. The American's aggressive play temporarily erased Kim's substantial overnight advantage and set up a thrilling back-nine battle.

Kim responded with characteristic determination, reclaiming the lead with a birdie on the par-4 11th hole. After both players traded bogeys on the 12th, Kim extended her advantage to two strokes with another birdie on the 14th.

The tournament's defining moments came on the final two par-4s and par-3 17th. Kim surrendered a stroke with a bogey on the 16th, then faced potential disaster after hitting her approach shot long on the 17th green. However, she executed a masterful flop shot from deep rough, landing the ball within 2½ feet to save par.

Korda's championship hopes effectively ended on that same 17th hole, where she three-putted for bogey, missing a crucial 3-footer that would have kept her within striking distance.

"Obviously, something like 17 stings, so it is what it is," Korda said. "It's golf. It's a quick turnaround. There is next week. So, just going to take all the positives."

Kim's clutch performance under pressure particularly impressed her, especially given the challenging conditions at Sharon Heights.

"I think just in the back nine my two par saves were probably the things I'm proudest about today," Kim said. "Just because my shots weren't playing as well."

The victory marks Kim's first LPGA Tour triumph since the Ford Championship in Phoenix last year, adding to her impressive resume of eight LPGA Tour titles and 14 KLPGA Tour victories. The 30-year-old previously won this event when it was held in Phoenix in 2015.

Kim's week began with a spectacular 63 in the opening round, highlighted by a hole-out eagle on the eighth hole that established a two-shot lead. She extended her advantage to four strokes after Friday's 70, positioning herself perfectly for the wire-to-wire victory.

"I enjoyed every single day, but this course was pretty tough," Kim said of the challenging Sharon Heights layout.

Sei Young Kim and Jin Hee Im tied for third place at 11-under, while world number one Jeeno Thitikul struggled to a final-round 73 and finished tied for 14th at 8-under.

The Fortinet Founders Cup, which honors the 13 founders of the LPGA Tour, has moved locations frequently since its inception in Arizona in 2011. After being held in Florida last year, the tournament found a challenging home at Sharon Heights in Menlo Park, California.

Attention now turns to next week's Ford Championship in Phoenix, where Kim will look to defend her title from last year's victory at Whirlwind Golf Club.
