On December 22, 2025, the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings (WWGR) made a significant announcement regarding updates that will take effect in January 2026. Changes to the calculation methodology are set to expand the Rankings, drawing attention to those in lower strength of field (SOF) events.
"These adjustments will introduce more players into the Rankings, notably players on tours with a lower strength of field," stated a representative from the WWGR Board. The goal of these changes is to foster inclusiveness within the women's golf landscape, ensuring that talent from various levels gains recognition.
Under the new system, all players making the cut in a WWGR event will receive Rankings points, marking a departure from the current model where points awarded are influenced by SOF. Previously, only a limited number of players in each field could earn points based on the strength of their competition, but now all cut-makers will be rewarded, regardless of the event's competitiveness.
"We believe it’s important to reward all competitors who demonstrate their skills by making the cut," said the WWGR Board. This shift is anticipated to boost motivation among players competing in events with lower SOF.
Another key adjustment involves the points distribution method. The Rankings will transition to a more linear format, establishing unique point allocations for every individual SOF, rather than categorizing them into defined ranges. As an example, tournaments with an SOF of 141 will have a distinct point distribution compared to those at 142, 143, and so on. This ensures that every increment of strength reflects a unique reward for the players competing.
Accompanying these changes is the exciting news of the ANNIKA Women’s All Pro Tour being added to the list of counting tours for 2026. This tour will be the 13th addition to the Rankings, marking the first new tour since the inclusion of the Thai LPGA in 2023.
Starting in 2026, the ANNIKA WAPT will begin accumulating Ranking points at the Lake Charles Regional Sports Authority Championship, scheduled for April 8-11 in Lake Charles, Louisiana. "The ANNIKA WAPT provides a direct path to the Epson Tour, with the top two weekly finishers receiving exemptions into selected Epson events," emphasized a tour representative. This connection to the Epson Tour is crucial for players striving to elevate their careers, providing pathways from local competitions to larger stages.
Since its establishment in 2019, the ANNIKA WAPT has been growing steadily, hosting 12 tournaments in 2025 and planning to expand to 13 events in 2026. The addition of this tour to the Rankings is set to give rising stars in women’s golf even more opportunities to make their mark.
