Matt Fitzpatrick claimed his third PGA Tour victory in dramatic fashion at the Valspar Championship, overcoming a three-shot deficit in the final round to capture the title at Innisbrook Resort's Copperhead Course.
The 31-year-old Englishman finished at 11-under par after shooting a final-round 69, earning him 500 FedExCup points and vaulting him to third in the season-long standings. His victory came with a hefty payday of $1.638 million from the tournament-record prize fund of $9.1 million.
Fitzpatrick's triumph served as redemption after last week's heartbreaking finish at THE PLAYERS Championship, where he fell just short of victory in the closing moments.
David Lipsky finished as runner-up at 10-under par, collecting 300 FedExCup points and $991,900 for his strong showing. Jordan Smith rounded out the top three at 9-under, earning 190 points and $627,900.
A three-way tie for fourth place featured some of the game's biggest names. Xander Schauffele, Marco Penge, and Sungjae Im each finished at 8-under par, splitting the fourth-place money and earning 115 FedExCup points apiece. Each player took home $382,958.33.
Emiliano Grillo and Stephan Jaeger shared seventh place at 7-under par, with both earning 82.5 FedExCup points and $276,412.50.
The tournament field featured several notable finishes further down the leaderboard. Justin Thomas and Alejandro Tosti tied for 30th place at 2-under par, each collecting 22 FedExCup points and $51,142.
At the bottom of the earnings list, Kevin Roy finished 73rd at 4-over par, earning 2.7 FedExCup points and $18,109, while Bud Cauley claimed 74th place at 7-over, collecting 2.6 points and $17,927.
Fitzpatrick's comeback victory adds another chapter to what has been a thrilling PGA Tour season, with the Valspar Championship delivering the kind of drama typically associated with March tournament play.
With the Valspar Championship now in the books, attention turns to the upcoming tour events as players continue their quest for FedExCup points and positioning heading into the season's final stretch.
