The conclusion of the 2025 AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open unfolded in captivating fashion, with Jayden Schaper emerging victorious at Heritage La Réserve Golf Links in Bel Ombre, Mauritius. This win marked Schaper's second consecutive triumph on the DP World Tour this season, solidifying his status on the circuit as he aims for a PGA Tour card in the future.
Schaper secured his win in dramatic fashion, nailing a chip-in eagle on the par-5 18th hole during the second hole of a sudden-death playoff against Ryan Gerard. The two players had finished regulation play tied at 22-under 266, both delivering remarkable rounds; Schaper posted a 64, while Gerard shot a 66 on the last day. "Those are the shots you’re dreaming about when you’re on the practice green as a youngster," said Schaper. "To pull it off in a tournament and in a playoff – I don’t know. I just can’t wait to get back and look at the footage of that shot because you’re in the moment and focused and you don’t really take in what just happened. I’m pretty sure it’s going to hit me later but it’s just so insane."
Gerard, who had been striving to secure a position within the top 50 of the Official World Golf Ranking to earn an invitation to the Masters, managed to force the playoff after getting up and down from a greenside bunker on the 18th hole. With his strong finish at the Mauritius Open, he achieved his goal of breaking into the top 50. "I've been pushing hard to make this happen, and it feels great to know I'll be playing at the Masters," Gerard stated.
Casey Jarvis rounded out the top three, finishing five shots back at 17-under. He consistent play yet just missed out on the playoff, reflecting both skill and resolve throughout the tournament.
Schaper's win came with a hefty winner's share of the purse, totaling €174,065.24 from a prize pool of €1,200,000. Additionally, he received 500 Race to Dubai points and 18.2 Official World Golf Ranking points, including 4 bonus points for being a multi-winner this season. As the numbers indicate, Schaper’s recent performances have significantly improved his standing on the circuit; he now sits at 63rd in the Official World Golf Ranking, bringing him closer to the prestigious Masters invitation.
The tournament featured a competitive field with 156 players starting out, though only 66 made it through the 36-hole cut. The event served as a high-stakes encounter in the ongoing DP World Tour season, presenting talented golfers the chance to demonstrate their skills on an international stage.
Looking ahead, the 2026 DP World Tour schedule promises further excitement as players continue to vie for their positions and points. As the season progresses, the importance of each tournament amplifies, providing opportunities for emerging stars while challenging seasoned veterans.
As for Schaper, his back-to-back victories set a positive tone for the new year and put him in an enviable position for both the remainder of the DP World Tour season and future opportunities on the PGA Tour. With players like Gerard also making significant strides, fans can anticipate a thrilling race to the Masters in April.
