MEXICO CITY -- Jon Rahm concluded his eventful week at LIV Golf with a commanding 6-shot victory, carding a stunning 7-under 64 on Sunday during the LIV Golf Mexico City event, making it his second win of the year.
Amidst a season where he hadn't secured a victory until now, Rahm’s performance stood in stark contrast to his previous experiences at this venue, where he faced disappointments in the past. Notably, he had played the Chapultepec Golf Club during its time as a World Golf Championship site without winning.
"If you would have told me last week on Thursday afternoon that I'd be winning by a six-shot margin this week, I would not have believed you because of how bad I played," said Rahm, who had a lackluster finish at the Masters, tying for 38th that week. "Hell of an effort."
His path to victory featured a remarkable start with a birdie on the reachable par-4 second hole followed by an eagle on the third. Rahm completed the round without a single bogey, showcasing an impressive display of skill and control.

This victory comes amidst ongoing uncertainty surrounding LIV Golf. Reports of financial instability have circulated, prompting CEO Scott O'Neil to reassure staff that funding for the league is secure through the end of the year. The weekend concluded with an announcement that LIV would return to Chapultepec next year.
Compounding the week’s drama, a power outage interrupted live streaming for two hours during the opening round. Additionally, Bryson DeChambeau withdrew from the final round due to wrist discomfort, having been 16 shots behind Rahm. DeChambeau, looking to win for the third consecutive time, acknowledged his decision to step back, stating, "I experienced some discomfort in my wrist during yesterday's round and have decided to withdraw from the the final round of LIV Golf Mexico City to prevent further injury. Not how I wanted this week to go."
While Rahm excelled, his Legion XIII team also claimed its first victory of the year. David Puig finished the tournament with a solid score of 66, earning crucial world ranking points that position him favorably for the upcoming PGA Championship. Puig’s strong performance may also set him up for a chance to compete in the U.S. Open, depending on his continuation of top finishes.

Jon Rahm expressed satisfaction with his game, noting, "I wouldn't say surprised. I put a lot of work in in the off-season. It's just nice to see it all unfold as well as it has. I would just say in general, everything is a little bit better than it was last year, possibly two years ago, as well. Playing really good golf right now."
As the LIV circuit looks ahead, the next event in Virginia is set for May 7-10, a critical time for players as the competition intensifies leading up to the upcoming PGA Championship. With Rahm's resurgence and DeChambeau’s injury, the dynamics of the league could shift significantly in the coming weeks.
