Jon Rahm recently revealed that a near confrontation with his caddie Adam Hayes during The Masters Tournament played a significant role in his eventual victory at LIV Golf Mexico City.
Before the second round at Augusta National, Rahm found himself in turmoil after posting a dismal first-round score of 78, matching his poorest major championship round. This prompted concerns about potentially missing the cut. However, he managed to recover his game, finishing in a tie for 38th place after carding rounds of 70, 73, and 68.
Just days following his Masters experience, Rahm stormed to a commanding six-shot victory at Club de Golf Chapultepec, posting an impressive score of 21-under par. This win came at a crucial time, as LIV Golf's financial stability appeared uncertain.

Reflecting on his Masters week, Rahm acknowledged that the intense discussion with Hayes over a swing technique proved to be transformative. "Once it clicked what he was trying to say and what I needed to work on during that range session Saturday afternoon, it was so much better," Rahm noted. "Adam and I nearly got in a heated argument on Saturday on the putting green at Augusta when he was trying to explain something and I wasn't fully understanding."
The confusion over swing mechanics was initially a hurdle for Rahm, but clarity struck during a practice session on Saturday, leading to a marked improvement. He shared, "Sunday at Augusta I played much better golf, and it's only gotten a little bit easier since then."
While Rahm opted not to divulge specific swing changes, he suggested that the intricacies were too complex to explain. "There are a lot of things that I could have done better," he said. "It would be too complicated an answer to give you, to be honest."
In his triumphant return to form, Rahm captured his second LIV Golf title of the 2026 season and his fourth overall since joining the tour in December 2023. His final round was particularly impressive, setting the tone early by going five under par over the first four holes.
After the victory, Rahm contemplated the drastic change in his performance just a week prior. "If you had told me last week on Thursday afternoon that I'd be winning by a six-shot margin this week, I would not have believed you because of how bad I played," he admitted.
This latest win solidifies Rahm's standing atop the LIV Golf individual leaderboard and markedly improved his standing in the Official World Golf Ranking, as he returned to the top 20 for the first time in over two years. Hayes, who has been with Rahm since 2016, continues to be a stable presence through their successful partnership, which has included major victories at the 2021 U.S. Open and 2023 Masters.

Rahm's journey from a tough start at The Masters to a stellar performance in Mexico exemplifies resilience and adaptability in the high-stakes world of professional golf. His experience serves as a reminder that moments of tension can lead to breakthroughs and success on the course.
